Two connected salt lakes, Malo Jezero (Small Lake) and Veliko Jezero (Big Lake), are nature's masterpieces.
The small island of the holy Maria on the Veliko Jezero is very unique and attractive. Furthermore there is a Benedictine monastery dated from the 12th century, which is under protection of historic buildings and monuments.
ODYSSEUS CAVE
Odisejeva špilja in Croatian) is situated in the central part of the island and has two entrances; from the sea and inland, down the steep path from the north. It is used even today by fishermen who hide their fishing-boats from the sea there.
This is a cave where, according to a well/known legend, Odysseus was captured after a shipwreck by and fell in love with an island nymph Calypso.
